Hard decisions

“Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.” - The Fray

I had to make a very hard decision recently. It affected me, some of my friends and some of the people that I work with. In time I will be able to tell you what this decision was but now is not that time so I will be talking about it as a decision and nothing more. Life is full of challenges and choices. Some are as simple as, “what am I going to eat today?” Others are far more difficult.

I had a cloud looming over me, one that was telling me I needed to get out and move on. My work is a work of passion and love. It is music. I teach at a rock band school in Littleton Colorado (www.BandDynamics.com), I’m a multi-instrumentalist, I play in a few projects, and I volunteer for Girls Rock Denver, a non profit rock band camp for girls in the summer (www.girlsrockdenver.org). It’s a busy, challenging life with not much monetary reward. At least not yet. The reward is so overwhelming in intrinsic value that money seems like an overshadow. Unfortunately we live in a society where money is absolutely necessary.

Back to hard decision making. Have you ever felt a tug on your heart that’s pulling you in the opposite direction of where you’re going? If you have, did you follow it? I’m a firm believer in following my heart and my instincts. This is what made my decision easy. I was following my heart. What made my decision hard was that the people I had to let down were people I truly loved, one of which is my best friend. I know I made the right decision, but it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I can’t wait to show you what comes of all my cryptic writing.

Follow your heart and have a beautiful day.
